Visiting primary care clinic in Chenega Bay runs through Monday

Chenega Bay residents have through Monday to see a visiting primary care doctor. Dr. Alfred Swanson's clinic in the Prince William Sound village runs Sept. 14 to 21, the longest of three Southcentral Foundation primary care windows this week.

In Nanwalek, Dr. Sam Castles is holding a clinic through Friday. In Tyonek, nurse practitioner Christopher Chronister's clinic was listed for a single day, Monday. Chenega Bay's Arch Priest Nicholas Kompkoff Clinic lists 907-573-5129, and the Nanwalek Clinic 907-281-2250.

Southcentral Foundation, an Alaska Native-owned health organization, operates clinics in Anchorage and the Matanuska-Susitna Valley. It reaches 55 villages in the Anchorage Service Unit by supporting village providers, using telemedicine and sending scheduled on-site teams, according to its Nuka System of Care white paper. Services are provided on a prepaid basis to members of 227 federally recognized Alaska Native tribes.

Between visits, Tyonek relies on its Indian Creek Health Clinic and Robert Stephan, the sole community health aide, with two more aide positions unfilled. Primary care providers fly in once every two months, according to Southcentral Foundation. The clinic's number is 907-583-2461.
