Vance visit brings flight limits to Anchorage and Fairbanks
Federal flight restrictions posted for Monday point to Anchorage as part of Vice President JD Vance's Alaska travel, alongside his announced rally in Fairbanks.
As of early Monday, the Federal Aviation Administration's temporary flight restriction system listed three Alaska VIP notices issued Saturday afternoon. Two cover Anchorage and one covers Fairbanks. The National Business Aviation Association lists all three as vice-presidential restrictions.
Anchorage notice 6/7060 covers a five-nautical-mile area from the surface to 4,999 feet above ground level, from 2 pm to 5:30 pm Alaska time Monday. It is centered on Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson's Elmendorf airfield. NBAA says it directly affects Elmendorf, Merrill Field and Bryant Army Airfield.
Notice 6/7061 covers Fairbanks from 4:45 pm to 8:30 pm Monday, centered on Fairbanks International Airport, which NBAA lists as directly affected. A second Anchorage notice, 6/7062, runs from 7:30 pm Monday to 8 pm Tuesday, Oct. 6, with the same center and affected airfields.
The notices don't establish an arrival time, a ground itinerary or any public event in Anchorage.
Vance is scheduled to appear at a midterm rally at the Omni Logistics Hangar, 6302 Old Airport Road in Fairbanks. The Republican event page lists doors at 2:15 pm, the event at 4:30 pm and remarks at 5:40 pm. The rally is paid for by Trump 47 Committee, Inc., and is not authorized by any candidate or candidate's committee.
Aircraft inside the zones must use an assigned transponder code, stay in radio contact and not loiter. Drones deemed a threat may be disrupted, seized or destroyed. NBAA says operators should expect arrivals held and ground movement stopped at affected airports during the vice president's arrival or departure.
The notices can change with travel schedules, and the FAA's flight restriction system has the current versions.
