Troopers investigating death of Elim woman after reported injury

A 40-year-old woman died early Saturday in Elim after being injured at a house in the Norton Sound village late Friday night, Alaska State Troopers said.

Troopers identified her as Lorraine M. Saccheus of Elim. A health aide reported the injury to troopers shortly before 1 am Saturday. Health aides went to the house to treat her and took her to the village clinic, where she was pronounced dead, according to a trooper dispatch.

Investigators from the Alaska Bureau of Investigation traveled to Elim. The bureau and the State Medical Examiner's Office are investigating the circumstances of her death. Troopers have not said what the injury was or how it happened.
