Alaska Wildlife Troopers issued two strict-liability citations to a 52-year-old Nikiski man, saying in a dispatch posted Wednesday that he took a spike bull moose out of season and without first obtaining a general harvest ticket. The citations are accusations, and the dispatch notes that defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.

Soldotna Wildlife Troopers received the report on Sept. 26, according to the Daily Dispatch entry. The dispatch gives the location only as Nikiski. It does not say when the moose was killed or whether a court appearance is required.

Under the 2026-2027 Alaska Hunting Regulations, a legal spike bull has at least one antler with a single tine; the other antler can have any configuration.

The regulations require harvest tickets for general-season moose hunts statewide. The tickets are free and available online, from license vendors and at Alaska Department of Fish and Game offices. Hunters must also submit a harvest report for every ticket they hold, including tickets for hunts they did not go on.
