Troopers arrest Wasilla motorcyclist on DUI and refusal charges after Palmer-Fishhook crash

A 28-year-old Wasilla man was jailed on charges of driving under the influence and refusing a chemical test after a motorcycle crash near Mile 9 of North Palmer-Fishhook Road late Saturday, Alaska State Troopers said.

Troopers received the report at about 10:05 p.m. Sept. 5. Their investigation found the rider had driven while under the influence of alcohol, according to dispatch AK26088294, posted by B Detachment, which covers the Mat-Su and Copper valleys. He was remanded to the Mat-Su Pretrial Facility.

The charges are accusations, and troopers said defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty. Refusing the test is a separate charge from the DUI: under Alaska's implied consent law, drivers are treated as having consented to breath or blood testing as a condition of driving. The Alaska Court System says DUI and refusal charges may be misdemeanors or felonies depending on a driver's prior record, and the dispatch does not give this rider's.

The dispatch does not say whether anyone was injured or whether another vehicle was involved.
