Troopers and rescue center retrieve critically injured person in Stevens Village
Alaska State Troopers and the Alaska Rescue Coordination Center retrieved a critically injured person in Stevens Village this week after two private air ambulance services could not make the attempt, according to a trooper Daily Dispatch report posted Wednesday.
Members of Stevens Village called troopers Oct. 19 to report a critical injury to one of their members. LifeMed Alaska and Guardian were unable to make the rescue attempt "due to the conditions," the report said. It did not describe the conditions or the injury, or say which aircraft made the rescue.
The person received care at Fairbanks Memorial Hospital and is expected to recover, troopers said.
Stevens Village sits about 90 air miles from Fairbanks. The Stevens Village community plan says emergency response is dispatched from Fairbanks and identifies that travel time as a safety concern.
