Employees at three Prince of Wales Island businesses accused of serving minors

Employees of three establishments on Prince of Wales Island were cited on allegations of furnishing alcohol to a person under 21, the Alcohol & Marijuana Control Office told the Alcoholic Beverage Control Board in an August 26 enforcement memo. "Compliance checks were conducted in multiple communities," Enforcement Supervisor Joe Bankowski wrote.

Troopers and AMCO ran undercover checks July 30 in the Craig and Klawock areas, using people under 21 at bars and dispensaries, a Department of Public Safety dispatch says. All were non-compliant, supplying alcohol or marijuana to the underage buyers, it says. Seven infractions were issued across both agencies, with warnings where appropriate.

The alcohol citations came from 46 inspections in communities off the road system, part of 293 licensed premises inspections between June 13 and August 21. AMCO ran 480 in the previous 70 days, a drop of about 39%.

Three Special Investigator positions in Anchorage, Fairbanks and Juneau remain vacant. AMCO is reclassifying them to Investigator III after repeated failed recruitments, Bankowski wrote.
