Three early-1990s UAA hockey teams become first teams in Seawolf Hall of Fame

Three early-1990s Seawolf hockey teams will become the first teams inducted into the Seawolf Hall of Fame, which the University of Alaska Anchorage founded in 2001. UAA Athletics announced in December 2025 that the Hall would return in 2027, then holding 56 inductees: 38 student-athletes, six coaches and 12 administrators and supporters.

Director of Athletics Michael Bazemore announced the Class of 2027 on July 20, 2026. The 1989-90, 1990-91 and 1991-92 teams join 19 former student-athletes and longtime supporter Steve Nerland, whose tenure with the program dates to 1979. Together, the class earned 61 All-America awards and 24 conference team titles, representing every UAA sport.

"The breadth and depth of this year's class is truly aspirational for our current student-athletes," Bazemore said.

UAA will hold the induction during its first student-athlete reunion, set for July 20-22, 2027, in Anchorage. Alumni and boosters supply nominations for the Hall. Some have urged the university to weigh community service and academics alongside athletic performance as criteria, part of a broader push among universities to court alumni support.
