A 17-year-old boy died Monday after a vehicle went into Lake Rose Tead near Pasagshak on Kodiak Island, Alaska State Troopers said.
Troopers in Kodiak received a report of a single-vehicle crash at about 8:03 a.m. May 25, according to the Alaska Department of Public Safety. Initial reports said the vehicle was in the lake and the driver was submerged and trapped inside.
People at the scene were trying to pull the driver out when troopers were called. Troopers and Alaska Wildlife Troopers responded but could not immediately remove him because he was trapped under the vehicle in water and mud, troopers said.
Troopers said the teenager was the driver and sole occupant. He was believed to have died before troopers arrived.
The State Medical Examiner's Office requested the body for autopsy. Troopers said next of kin had been notified and the investigation was ongoing, according to the department's May 26 dispatch.
