Sullivan and Murkowski split on DACA funding votes

Sen. Dan Sullivan voted against two amendments to fund DACA application processing on June 4 and June 5. Sen. Lisa Murkowski voted for both. The split marks a rare immigration-policy divide between Alaska's senators.

The Senate rejected both measures. Durbin Amendment 5806 sought to repurpose Immigration and Customs Enforcement funds for DACA processing. It also would have prohibited the use of funds for the arrest, detention, or deportation of DACA recipients. The amendment failed 48-51 on June 4 in Senate Vote 152.

Gallego Amendment 5813 would have funded timely adjudication of DACA renewal applications. It failed 47-52 on June 5 in Senate Vote 156. Murkowski voted for both amendments. Sullivan voted against both.

Sullivan and Murkowski voted together on 12 other budget amendments on June 4 and June 5. They voted to prohibit Justice Department settlement payments to individuals convicted of assaulting law enforcement officers on Jan. 6, 2021. That measure was Coons Amendment 5457 in Senate Vote 158. They also voted to block federal funding for individuals convicted of certain crimes in Hickenlooper Amendment 5501, Senate Vote 145.
