State posts logging plan for 365-acre timber sale near Coffman Cove on Prince of Wales
The Alaska Division of Forestry and Fire Protection posted a draft logging plan on Oct. 9 for the Northwest Coffman Timber Sale, about 365 acres between Grassy Lake and Coffman Cove on Prince of Wales Island. The state's notice doesn't yet include the plan itself, maps or a comment deadline.
The plan, called a Forest Land Use Plan, lays out how the timber would be cut and how the area would be reforested. One is required for any timber sale larger than 10 acres, according to the division.
The Department of Natural Resources approved the sale in May, authorizing about 7.6 million board feet of timber. The buyer would be required to manufacture the wood in Alaska.
