Seven days to comment on an FAA weather system lease at Goodnews Bay Airport

The Federal Aviation Administration wants to put a weather observation system at Goodnews Bay Airport, and the public may comment on the proposed 20-year land lease through 4:30 p.m. Sept. 30.

The Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities filed notice ADA-09733 MOA on Wednesday for a navigational aid site, the state's online public notices show. Rent is free.

The lease covers FAA navigation, communication and weather aids and rights-of-way for GNU-VWOS, the agency's Visual Weather Observation System: a 360-degree camera and a full suite of sensors, for places with no weather reporting.

The listing gives no acreage or parcel description. A Seldovia lease notice posted the same day gives both and takes comments for 30 days.

State regulation requires at least seven days' notice for a navigational, landing, or weather aid lease, posted online and in a public place at the airport or the nearest community. This notice runs exactly that long.

The department will send its decision only to people who comment in writing and include a return address.
