Soldotna resident says builder near school pushes snow into street

A builder across from Redoubt Elementary left no room on site to store snow and pushed it into the street, resident Elizabeth Hinshaw told the Soldotna City Council on Wednesday. Hinshaw raised the issue as a safety concern for children and traffic near the school.

Hinshaw said she believed the city's roads department contacted the builder four times. "He wasn't contacted once, he wasn't contacted twice, he was contacted 4 times," she said.

She said the builder's site plan set aside no space for snow storage and noted the builder is based in California. Another building farther down Redoubt Road sits on a larger lot with room to push snow, she said. Hinshaw asked whether city planning should apply more scrutiny to site plans before construction begins.

The city manager said the concern will go to the planning director. "We do require snow storage on property, so we will be checking into that property," the manager said.
