Sitka's Assembly takes up how to pay for child care

Sitka families struggling to find affordable child care could see a funding source move forward Tuesday, when the Assembly takes up the question along with a model for how such a program might work. Nothing has been adopted yet.

It comes seven weeks after a work session on the shortage, requested by Assembly members Kevin Mosher and Thor Christianson. Survey data presented there found most Sitka parents have trouble finding affordable care, and nearly two-thirds of employers said the shortage was hurting their business.

The Assembly meets at 6 pm.
