The Postal Service is looking for someone new to deliver mail to about 741 mailboxes in Wasilla, and it wants them on the road by Dec. 14.

The route has grown. When the Postal Service last looked for a carrier, in 2021, the route had about 650 boxes and needed one vehicle. Now it needs two, running two loops of about 21 miles each, six days a week. The Postal Service estimates the work at about 3,800 hours a year, up from about 2,400.

The 2021 posting set the job to run through September 2027. This time, the Postal Service is skipping its usual 30-day posting period "because of the urgency of the service," as it also did in 2021. Its notice doesn't say what the urgency is.

Whoever gets the job will start each morning sorting the route's mail at the Wasilla post office before heading out. Drivers who sort mail must be paid at least $22.24 an hour.

Bids are due Nov. 9. The new contract runs through September 2030.
