Midtown council raises president term limit from four to five

Anchorage's Midtown Community Council will let its president and vice president serve five consecutive one-year terms instead of four, under bylaws members re-approved by unanimous consent on Sept. 9, meaning nobody objected and no vote was taken. President Kris Stoehner signed them and is running for president again in October.

The limit went from three terms to four in August 2025. Members who reach the limit may seek reelection to that office after sitting out one year. No term limits apply to secretary, treasurer or the five at-large seats on the nine-member Executive Board.

Elections are held each October, with nominations in September. Candidates must have attended two of the previous six general meetings. The next general meeting is Oct. 14 at 3000 C Street.

Amendments require a two-thirds vote and must be filed with the Municipal Clerk within 45 days. The council is an advisory body under Anchorage Municipal Code Chapter 2.40.
