Koniag shareholders will get multiple chances to question corporation leadership in person this fall, with town halls set for five Kodiak Archipelago villages plus Seattle and Portland, and additional sessions planned for Ouzinkie and Soldotna.

The regional corporation, created under the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act for about 3,800 Alutiiq shareholders, posted the schedule Wednesday.

Village meetings run first. Akhiok School holds its session from 9 to 11 a.m. Sept. 9. The Nuniaq Center in Old Harbor follows from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. that day. Larsen Bay Tribal Hall hosts its town hall from 1 to 3 p.m. Sept. 10, and Kodiak Marketplace holds one from 5 to 7 p.m. the same day. Port Lions Tribal Hall closes out the village round from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Sept. 11.

Two town halls follow in the Lower 48. The Hilton Seattle Airport and Conference Center meets from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Sept. 22, and the Embassy Suites by Hilton Portland Airport meets from 5 to 7 p.m. Sept. 23.

Koniag's event calendar also lists town halls in Ouzinkie and Soldotna, though it has not yet posted times or locations for those sessions.

Koniag directors are elected at large to three-year terms, so no board seat represents a specific village. Some shareholders involved in governance disputes say that structure fails to guarantee village representation.
