Kenai commission to hear extraction permit and setback variance for one parcel
The Kenai Planning and Zoning Commission will hold public hearings Wednesday, Oct. 14, on a conditional use permit and a related variance for one parcel's gravel extraction. The permit would allow extraction of natural resources. The variance would let the operator dig into required setbacks to expand that extraction.
City rules for extraction permits require digging to stay at least 150 feet from property lines and 200 feet from roads. The agenda does not say how far into those setbacks the operator would dig.
The commission approved a similar setback variance earlier this year for extraction at 2817 Beaver Loop Road. The city identified an appeal of that decision to its Board of Adjustment. A separate resolution on Wednesday's agenda would approve withdrawal of that variance application.
The permit and variance appear on Wednesday's agenda as Resolution PZ2026-34 and Resolution PZ2026-35.
The meeting begins at 7 pm in Kenai City Council Chambers. Residents may testify in person or register to join by Zoom.
