Kenai assembly weighs putting school board term limits to voters

Kenai Peninsula Borough school board members could face limits on how long they keep their seats — but not by the Assembly's hand alone. An ordinance from Assembly Member Dale Eicher would cap board tenure, and because the Assembly can't impose that itself, a yes vote only sends the question to borough voters to settle.

It's not new ground here. Voters approved term limits for both the assembly and the school board back in 2007, and passed a related measure in 2009. The nine-member board currently serves three-year staggered terms with no cap.

The ordinance comes up for introduction Aug. 4, with a public hearing set for Sept. 1. Testimony will be taken at both.
