A hiker injured in a fall near Ketchikan called for help Tuesday afternoon, and Alaska Wildlife Troopers and the Ketchikan Volunteer Rescue Squad reached him by boat and took him to a hospital.

A hiker injured in a fall along George Inlet near Ketchikan was reached by boat Tuesday afternoon and taken to a Ketchikan hospital for evaluation, Alaska State Troopers said.

The hiker called troopers at 3:53 p.m. on Aug. 4, 2026, and reported he could not self-rescue, according to the trooper dispatch. He gave responders the coordinates of his location.

Alaska Wildlife Troopers and members of the Ketchikan Volunteer Rescue Squad responded in a wildlife patrol vessel. The U.S. Coast Guard responded in a separate vessel.

George Inlet has drawn other search-and-rescue responses. In 2018, the Coast Guard and the rescue squad searched for people missing after a floatplane crash there. That operation was separate from a July 2018 rescue on nearby Deer Mountain, where a Coast Guard MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew, Alaska State Troopers and the rescue squad rescued two overdue hikers.

Troopers did not release the hiker's name or condition.
