Anchorage contractor that shrank to six employees now fills federal supply orders

ASCI Federal Services, an Anchorage logistics firm, nearly folded. Between January 2021 and October 2022, ASCI lost more than 90% of its revenue and 95% of its workforce, falling from 125 employees to six.

After restructuring as a majority women-owned business and shifting toward federal contracting, it rebuilt to nearly 50 employees and grew annual revenue from $1.4 million to nearly $8 million. SBA certified ASCI as a Women-Owned Small Business in December 2022.

The General Services Administration awarded ASCI 15 purchase orders this week, ranging from $47 industrial goggles to $2,691 in disposable gloves. Each order is a line item under the $12.4 million logistics contract GSA awarded ASCI in November 2022 for sourcing, procurement, warehousing and transportation for federal customers in Alaska.

That $12.4 million is the contract's ceiling rather than money spent. Individual orders against it have run far larger than this week's batch, including $40,862 for copy paper in July.

The federal pivot reaches beyond Alaska. ASCI's largest single federal award is a Navy contract worth about $14.8 million, running April 2024 through March 2027, performed in North Carolina.
