The Kuskokwim Delta's high tides have passed. Forecasters expected no flooding.

High tides ran a foot or less above the normal high tide line along the Kuskokwim Delta coast Friday and Saturday morning, and no flooding materialized. Both mornings have passed with no alert in effect, and water levels should keep dropping through the start of the week.

Kipnuk, Kwigillingok, Kongiganak and Quinhagak were the most exposed. Forecasters had warned midweek of water one to two feet above normal, with southerly gusts to 40 mph.

A quiet weekend matters more than usual in these villages. Kwigillingok floods most years, from storm surge, ice jams and other causes, and a state profile puts average erosion there at two to 15 feet a year. Kipnuk and Kwigillingok are both still rebuilding from the remnants of Typhoon Halong, which hit last October and drew a federal disaster declaration. Kipnuk received a second one in May.
