Five cruise ships set to visit Saint Paul Island in six-week stretch

Five cruise ships will call at Saint Paul Island between Aug. 8 and Sept. 10, packing the island's visitor season into a six-week stretch, according to a schedule from the City of Saint Paul released Thursday.

The Roald Amundsen arrives Aug. 8, followed by Hanseatic Inspiration on Aug. 11. World of ResidenSea and NG Resolution come back to back on Aug. 21 and Aug. 22. Fridtjof Nansen closes it out Sept. 10.

Each pair means two ships' worth of passengers within days, on an island whose port normally sits empty. The Port of Saint Paul Island's vessel listing currently shows no ships in port and none expected.

Saint Paul is the largest of the Pribilofs, 480 kilometers north of Unalaska, and sits inside the Alaska Maritime National Wildlife Refuge. It hosts the world's largest northern fur seal breeding colony, the draw operators market to expedition passengers.

CLIA Alaska cautions that port schedules change without notice. Travelers should confirm dates with the cruise lines.
