Federal grant of $1.63 million funds Muddy Creek bridge on the Glenn Highway

A culvert at Mile 94 of the Glenn Highway plugs with sediment and debris every year. It is going to be replaced with a bridge.

The Federal Highway Administration awarded the Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities $1,634,500 for the work, which runs through July 2028. The existing structure is a 10-foot-diameter culvert at the Muddy Creek crossing near Victory Road.

The job covers the bridge itself plus grading, paving, signing, striping, drainage, erosion control and roadside hardware, along with utility relocations and a temporary detour during construction. Adjacent drainage patterns and infrastructure are to be restored to pre-flood conditions.

Drainage is a running problem on that stretch. The department has a separate federally funded pavement project on Victory Road at Mile 94.7 that includes drainage improvements and culvert replacement. Insufficient ditches and missing or damaged culverts let runoff collect alongside the road and contribute to structural damage, the department says of that work. A corridor project between Mile 66.5 and Mile 92 also includes culvert repair and replacement.

The award record lists no construction start date and no contractor.
