Fairbanks transportation committee takes up Airport Way corridor and Turner Street work
Fairbanks Area Surface Transportation (FAST) Planning's Project Enhancement Committee discusses Airport Way corridor improvements and Airport Way cul-de-sacs Thursday, along with Turner Street improvements, a downtown sign audit and scoping for a downtown traffic study. It schedules no votes on any of them.
The 2018 Airport Way Functional Features Plan identified removing, realigning or building cul-de-sacs on the existing frontage roads on the north and south sides of the highway.
FAST Planning's federal fiscal year 2027-28 Unified Planning Work Program says recommendations from that plan and a 2007 reconnaissance study had not advanced. It calls for a new corridor audit with the Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities, the City of Fairbanks and the Fairbanks North Star Borough, with $10,000 in planning funds. The goal is a high-priority project list and implementation plan for the Metropolitan Transportation Plan.
Residents can comment on the Draft 2050 Metropolitan Transportation Plan, the 20-year plan for Fairbanks and North Pole, through Oct. 30.
