Fairbanks Planning to take up metro boundary expansion June 17
The Fairbanks Area Surface Transportation Planning Policy Board will take up a Metropolitan Planning Area boundary update at its June 17 meeting, a decision that determines which roads and communities fall under federal transportation planning requirements and funding eligibility.
FAST Planning released a draft boundary expansion in October 2023 proposing to add Farmer's Loop, Chena Ridge, Chena Pump, Moose Creek, and Eielson Air Force Base to the planning area based on 2020 Census urbanization data. The draft was open for public review and comment from October 12 to November 12, 2023.
The board will also discuss the FFY2027-28 Unified Planning Work Program at the June 17 meeting.
The board meets from noon to 2 p.m. June 17 at the FAST Planning office and is a hybrid format with remote participation available by computer, app, or telephone through the FAST Planning website.
