APMA J20245690 Palmer Project Extension Request - Public Comment Deadline

About this event

The Alaska Department of Natural Resources (DNR), Division of Mining, Land and Water (DMLW), has received a request from Constantine Mining, LLC and Constantine North, Inc. to extend the expiration date of their Plan of Operations Approval for the Palmer Project. The request specifically concerns 16 state mining claims located near the community of Haines in the Juneau Mining District. The applicants are seeking to move the current expiration date from December 31, 2028, to December 31, 2033. This extension is intended to provide additional time to complete previously approved exploration and reclamation work. The DNR is considering this request under 11 AAC 86.800(d). The scope of this public notice is strictly limited to the requested date extension. The DNR has clarified that it is not reopening or reconsidering the underlying plan of operations, nor does this process apply to the Palmer Project as a whole, federal mining claims, or Mental Health Trust lands. All other terms and conditions of the existing approval would remain unchanged if the extension is granted. Public comments regarding the extension request must be submitted to the Fairbanks Mine Permitting Office by 5:00 p.m. AST on Friday, November 6, 2026. Following the comment period, the DNR will issue a decision specifically addressing the requested extension.
