Alaska Federation of Natives Convention

Chair Brawley opened the October 6, 2026, meeting by recognizing the upcoming Indigenous Peoples' Day and the Alaska Federation of Natives (AFN) Convention scheduled for October 19–23 at the Dena'ina Center. The Assembly announced a schedule change for November, moving their meeting to Wednesday, November 4, to avoid conflict with the November 3 election. The Mayor's proposed 2027 municipal budget was introduced as eight separate agenda items. The Assembly has scheduled work sessions for October 16 and 23, with an amendment review session set for November 6. Public hearings on the budget are slated for the October 20 and November 4 meetings. Additionally, the Assembly is moving forward with the Fiscal Future Initiative. A community Fiscal Future Summit is scheduled for October 30, 2026, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the UAA Student Union to discuss the municipality's long-term fiscal strategy.
