Alaska Deaf Council Luncheon
📍 Hotel Captain Cook, Anchorage, Alaska
About this event
The Governor's Council on Disabilities and Special Education (GCDSE) released its October 2026 update, highlighting recent organizational activities and governance improvements. The Council welcomed two new members, Don Clack and Dave Berube, while noting two remaining vacancies for a self-advocate and an Alaska Commission on Aging representative. Art Delune was appointed as the new CISS Chair.
Key activities included co-hosting the 2nd annual Employment First Conference, which saw 140 attendees, and participation in the Statewide Summit on Aging. Staff also attended the AADD 'Face-to-Face' meeting and the Division of Early Childhood International Conference. The Council is currently preparing for the upcoming legislative session and planning a 'Key Campaign' in Juneau for March 17-18, 2027.
Feedback from the October Council meeting indicated a need for improved audio technology and clearer voting procedures. In response, staff committed to a two-week timeline for distributing meeting materials and enhancing hybrid participation. The next full Council meeting is scheduled for February 9–11, 2027, in Juneau.
