Eagle River man cited for feeding black bears, false license statements

A 48-year-old Eagle River man is accused of intentionally feeding black bears. Wildlife officials warn the practice can turn bears into a public safety risk that ends with the animals being killed.

Alaska Wildlife Troopers cited Casey Noveske for feeding the bears and for making false statements on his 2026 resident sport fish license. The citations were issued through the Anchorage Court. The case is documented under incident number AK26067697.

Troopers said the investigation began July 14 and found he was habituating black bears through feeding and close human-wildlife interactions.

The dispatch, posted Aug. 3, states the charges are accusations and that a defendant is presumed innocent. It records no response from the man cited.

In a June 25 post, the Alaska Wildlife Troopers said bears and moose "are wild animals, not zoo animals or pets."

The public dispatch does not list a court date.
