Doyon to open Descendant Registry applications this fall

Descendants of Doyon, Limited shareholders will soon have a new path to hiring preference, workforce training and internships. The corporation will open its Descendant Registry this fall. Doyon says registered descendants are eligible for those benefits beginning in summer 2026, ahead of the fall application period. The corporation has not explained how eligibility begins before applications open.

Applications will require paperwork that families may not have on hand. Every applicant must submit a certified, government-issued birth certificate for themselves and certified birth certificates for their parents. Depending on how the applicant descends from an original Doyon shareholder, the corporation may also require grandparents' birth certificates, marriage certificates, adoption decrees, court-ordered name change documents or other records to verify Alaska Native lineage.

"Gathering official records can take time, so Doyon encourages eligible descendants to begin collecting their documentation now," the corporation said in its announcement.

Registered descendants also receive Doyon newsletters and business updates, eligibility for select promotions and giveaways, and the chance to be featured in Descendant Spotlights on the corporation's website, newsletter and social media.

The registry does not change ownership. Doyon states on its shareholder information pages that registering as a descendant does not create new stock or expand the shareholder base, does not provide the Doyon Settlement Trust distribution and does not grant voting rights. The corporation describes it as a tool to connect descendants and to prepare for future gifting or inheritance.

Doyon is the Alaska Native regional corporation for Interior Alaska, established under the 1971 Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act. It has received title to more than 11.5 million acres of a 12.5 million-acre entitlement. It employs more than 800 people worldwide, including more than 550 in Alaska.
