DOT&PF opens bidding to resurface Glacier Highway from Juneau's ferry terminal to South Lena

The Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities has opened bidding to resurface Glacier Highway between the Auke Bay Ferry Terminal and South Lena.

The department's Southcoast Region issued an Invitation to Bid for Project No. 0955020/SFHWY00297, "JNU Glacier Hwy Resurface: Ferry Terminal to S. Lena."

Sealed bids in single copy, covering all labor, materials and equipment, go to the Construction Contracts Office at 6860 Glacier Highway in Juneau. Bids are due Oct. 1 at 2 p.m. The department estimates the work at $5 million to $10 million, and the contract requires one trainee for 500 hours.

Work covers mile marker 14 to mile marker 16.4, just past the South Lena intersection. Planned preventive maintenance may include minor structural section improvements, drainage repairs, guardrail replacement, and striping and sign replacement.

The Federal Highway Administration awarded $8,827,896 for the project. That is one of six federal awards on the project, which together total $10.3 million.
