DOT&PF opens bidding to resurface Glacier Highway from Juneau's ferry terminal to South Lena

The state is looking for a contractor to repave the stretch of Glacier Highway between the Auke Bay ferry terminal and South Lena.

The work runs from mile 14 to mile 16.4, ending just past the South Lena intersection. Beyond new pavement it may include drainage repairs, guardrail replacement, striping and sign work, and minor structural fixes.

The transportation department estimates the job at $5 million to $10 million. Federal highway money covers most of it, including a single award of $8.8 million, part of $10.3 million the project has drawn across six federal awards.

Bids are due Oct. 1. The contract requires the winner to put one trainee on the job for 500 hours.
