Delta Junction man cited for fishing closed waters and gillnet violation in Nushagak

A Delta Junction man faces arraignment in Dillingham next month after Alaska Wildlife Troopers cited him for commercial fishing in closed waters and a gillnet violation in the Nushagak District on July 4. The citation was one of 11 that troopers issued across Bristol Bay between June 27 and July 10 under the Bristol Bay Salmon Enforcement Program.

Ioan Kuzmin, 27, is scheduled to be arraigned at Dillingham District Court on August 3. The charges are accusations, and Kuzmin is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.

The citations came during one of the season's biggest sockeye runs. Bristol Bay's eastside districts had harvested more than 17.7 million sockeye by mid-July, and fishing periods there open and close on short notice through a steady stream of emergency orders.
