Cordova's Bob Korn pool reopens Thursday after boiler repairs
The City of Cordova's Bob Korn Memorial Swimming Pool reopens Thursday, Oct. 22, on its regular schedule. A boiler problem had forced what the city called an "unexpected closure."
The city credited Caliber Mechanical and its own maintenance team with the repair and thanked residents for their patience. The city-owned indoor saltwater pool has six 25-yard lanes, according to the city's pool page.
The boiler has been a problem since the pool reopened in September after a 16-month closure. "It's been a long 16 months," Parks and Recreation Director Samantha Hagerthy-Schneider told the city's Parks and Recreation Commission on Sept. 29.
At that meeting, she said staff were resetting the pool boiler every day while they waited for a part, and that shipping was slowing it down. The boiler at the Bidarki Recreation Center was out too, she said.
She said the city was fitting the pool boiler with a new burner, about $24,000, paid for with money from a budget amendment, and that Caliber Mechanical would install it.
Based on a press release from City of Cordova.
