The Coast Guard added $7,161 on Oct. 15 to a delivery order with JAG Alaska Inc. for work on the cutter Kukui, bringing obligations to $3,306,381. A delivery order places specific work under an existing contract. The federal award record lists Seward as the place of performance.

The Coast Guard first obligated about $2.2 million March 11 and added the rest through 18 later changes. Work was scheduled from March 31 through Oct. 15. The total is money committed, not necessarily spent, and postings to the record can trail the underlying work by weeks.

JAG Alaska previously completed a $4.2 million Navy contract to repair the USNS Sioux at its Seward shipyard, a job expected to require 10,000 labor hours and bring multiple new jobs to the facility.

In August, JAG was awarded $1,405,113 through the Maritime Administration's small shipyard grant program, part of more than $2.3 million that two Seward shipyard operators will use for new vessel-handling and fabrication equipment, Alaska News reported Aug. 11. Sen. Dan Sullivan's office described the grants as support for basing an Arctic Security Cutter, an icebreaker, in Seward.
