Coast Guard awards $99,950 to repair fire damage at Base Kodiak barracks

Repairs to a fire-damaged barracks at U.S. Coast Guard Base Kodiak begin Tuesday under a $99,949.55 contract and are scheduled to finish Dec. 11. The Coast Guard awarded the work to Hunatek Federal Services LLC, an 8(a) firm owned by Huna Totem Corporation, the village corporation for Hoonah.

The record says the work was not competed, drew one offer and used no set-aside. It does not say when the fire happened or whether anyone was displaced.

The damaged structure is Barracks 1, Building 4, one of a group of two-story buildings constructed in 1940 for the Navy and remodeled several times since.

The Coast Guard has awarded $143.4 million in orders under an existing construction contract for 30 family housing units and a child development center designed to serve more than 200 children, the housing due in 2028 and the center in January 2029. The Coast Guard expects the first of two Arctic Security Cutters homeported in Kodiak in 2028.
