Bristol Bay resident moose permit RM583 now available, with village pickup dates set
Resident hunters can now pick up moose permit RM583 for the upcoming fall season at the Alaska Department of Fish and Game office in Dillingham. The permit is available to Alaska residents only.
The permit covers any-bull moose in Game Management Units 17B and 17C. The season runs Aug. 20 through Sept. 15.
For hunters in villages without road access to Dillingham, ADF&G staff will bring permits directly to four Nushagak River communities: Ekwok on July 31, Manokotak on Aug. 4, Koliganek on Aug. 5, and New Stuyahok on Aug. 6. If bad weather prevents permit issuance on the scheduled date, department staff will reschedule.
The Bristol Bay Native Association has noted that permit systems and travel requirements can create real barriers for rural subsistence hunters, particularly when travel to Dillingham is required.
Permits are also available at the Dillingham office through Aug. 31 for anyone who can make the trip in person.
Reporting Requirements
Harvest reporting is mandatory and time-sensitive. Successful hunters must report their harvest to the Dillingham ADF&G office within five days of taking a moose. Every permit holder, whether they filled their tag or not, must return a hunt report within 15 days of the Sept. 15 season close. Reports can be filed by phone at (907) 842-2334, in person at any ADF&G office, by mail, or online at the ADF&G permit reporting portal.
For questions about moose hunting opportunities in Unit 17, contact the Alaska Department of Fish and Game in Dillingham at (907) 842-2334.
