Anchorage Assembly to consider alcohol permits for two UAA arts venues Aug. 4

Fine Arts Building and Wendy Williamson Auditorium seek beer and wine licenses

Concertgoers and theater audiences at the University of Alaska Anchorage could buy beer and wine at two more campus venues under permits the Anchorage Assembly is scheduled to take up Aug. 4.

NANA Management Services, LLC, the campus concessionaire, is seeking sporting activity or event licenses for the Fine Arts Building at 3700 Alumni Drive and the Wendy Williamson Auditorium at 2533 Providence Drive. The company already holds licenses at the Avis Alaska Sports Complex, the Alaska Airlines Center and Varsity Grill.

Both permits would allow on-premises sales seven days a week. The applications list theater productions, concerts, gallery openings, dance performances and lecture series rather than traditional sporting events. "Events can range from start times of 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. during the calendar year," the Fine Arts application said.

No public comment received

The Planning Department mailed 224 notices for one site and 261 for the other on July 1. It received no public comments. The University Area Community Council did not comment. Planning staff recommends approval of both permits.
