Anchorage airport noise study to present mitigation alternatives by summer
Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport is working on ways to reduce aircraft noise around the facility, with public meetings expected by mid-summer 2026 to share options for quieting the skies over nearby neighborhoods.
The airport is conducting what's called a Part 150 Noise Compatibility Study. That means the team is mapping where aircraft noise reaches homes and businesses, then figuring out what can be done about it.
In February, airport officials met with a study advisory committee and held a public open house. Project manager Ian Moore told the committee the team expects to have draft strategies ready by late summer and a final draft by fall.
The Federal Aviation Administration created the Part 150 process so airports across the country can measure noise impacts and develop plans to address them. Airports don't have to do these studies, but completing one is required before they can get federal money to help pay for noise reduction projects.
