Alaska State Parks cabin booking faces a gap during 2026 system swap

If you're planning an Alaska State Parks cabin stay in early 2027, the booking system may not be there when you go to reserve. Reserve America stops taking reservations Dec. 31, and the state's replacement isn't required to launch until Oct. 1, 2026. That leaves the changeover sitting right where travelers would normally be booking.

Cabins open for reservation seven months out, at midnight Alaska time. A stay in early 2027 falls inside the window you'd be booking during the transition, and the state hasn't said how reservations for stays starting Jan. 1, 2027, will be handled while the systems swap.

The state has confirmed that existing reservations, and any booked before the new system goes live, will carry over. Reserve America gift certificates for state parks won't. Those expire Sept. 30, 2026, and don't transfer, worth knowing if you're holding one.

Only three of the division's 76 campgrounds currently book online, along with public-use cabins, pavilions and seasonal ice huts. If you're eyeing a winter cabin, watch the division's site this fall. The booking window opens before the new system is guaranteed to, and the details aren't posted yet.
