Alaska seniors get free Summit on Aging seats, but must register in advance

Alaskans 65 and older, and those with intellectual and developmental disabilities, can attend October's Statewide Summit on Aging without paying registration fees. They have to sign up first.

In-person space is limited and the Alaska Commission on Aging is not taking walk-ins. Anyone who would rather not travel to Anchorage can attend online by contacting the organizers.

The summit runs Oct. 15 through 17 at the Turnagain Social Club on East Tudor Road. Saturday includes a gubernatorial forum on aging and a hearing on the state senior plan. Continuing education credit is pending.

Parking at the venue is limited, with a shuttle running from the Home Depot lot.

For everyone else, early bird registration of $250 for all three days now runs through Sept. 15. Alaskans who cannot register online can call 907-328-9737 or 907-230-0871, and senior centers may sign up community members as a group.
