Alaska seniors get free Summit on Aging seats, but must register in advance

Alaskans 65 and older and those with intellectual and developmental disabilities can attend the Statewide Summit on Aging in Anchorage without paying registration fees, but only with advance sign-up. The Alaska Commission on Aging said in-person spaces are limited. "We are not accepting walk-ins at this time," the commission said in its Monday newsletter. Those who prefer not to travel can attend virtually by contacting the organizers.

The summit runs Oct. 15-17 at the Turnagain Social Club, 630 E Tudor Road. Continuing education credit is pending. Parking is limited, with a shuttle from the Home Depot lot.

Saturday includes a gubernatorial forum on aging and a hearing on the state senior plan.

Early bird registration of $250 for all three days has been extended through Sept. 15. Alaskans who cannot register online can call 907-328-9737 or 907-230-0871. Senior centers may coordinate registrations for community members.
