Alaska Labor Relations Agency sets Sept. 29 public session on bargaining basics

Public employers and unions in Alaska can sit in on a bargaining refresher later this month, taught by the two sides of the table at once.

The Alaska Labor Relations Agency has scheduled the session for Tuesday, Sept. 29, at 11 a.m. as part of its quarterly Negotiation Project on labor relations in Alaska. Dallas Hargrave, human resources and risk management director for the City and Borough of Juneau, and Michael Snyder, a business agent with IBEW Local 1547, are listed as presenters.

The agency administers Alaska's collective bargaining laws for municipalities, boroughs, school districts and the University of Alaska, and it hears unfair labor practice charges. Its 2024 annual report counted three such charges filed that year, two involving alleged bad faith bargaining and one alleging interference with employees' protected rights.

The series continues Friday, Nov. 6, at 11 a.m., with mediator Myla Hite presenting on models of bargaining. The agency's published calendar lists all four dates, including Feb. 9 and May 4, 2027, without topics or presenters.
