Alaska House takes no action, adjourns to Friday

The Alaska House of Representatives took no action on natural gas taxation Tuesday, gaveling in and adjourning within minutes to another technical session set for Friday at 10:30 a.m.

The presiding officer called the House to order and asked the clerk to note members present. "I move and ask unanimous consent that the House stand at adjournment until Friday, August 21st at 10:30 AM for a technical session," the majority leader said. No objection was raised, and no legislation came before the chamber.

The fourth special session has produced no floor action on the gas line tax question. Alaska News previously covered the House's 19-19 tie on the conference committee report on the Alaska LNG tax bill, which ended that measure's path forward.

Members of the House Republican minority have argued in a letter to Speaker Bryce Edgmon that the House should meet in full session and take up the governor's proposals rather than gavel in and out.
