A teen moose hunter was flown to a hospital after a tree stand fall near Fairbanks

A teenage moose hunter fell from a tree stand about 12 miles southeast of Fairbanks on Monday and was flown to a Fairbanks-area hospital, Alaska Wildlife Troopers said.

Troopers received the report on Sept. 21. The helicopter known as Helo 2 responded and carried the hunter and his father out for treatment, according to a Department of Public Safety dispatch. The dispatch does not describe the teen's injuries or condition.

The fall came during an active moose season in the Interior. The Alaska Department of Fish and Game's 2026-27 hunting regulations list seasons running into late September, with dates varying by hunt area and permit.

Helo 2 was also used in the Sept. 7 rescue of a moose hunter who had a medical emergency on the upper Chistochina River. That hunter was flown, with a University Fire Department medic aboard, to Gulkana Airport. In August, Alaska Wildlife Troopers used a helicopter the dispatch did not identify to pull three stranded hikers out of Hatcher Pass after weather and high water left them unable to walk out.
