A builder across from a Soldotna school pushed its snow into the street

A builder across from Redoubt Elementary left no room on site to store snow and pushed it into the street, resident Elizabeth Hinshaw told the Soldotna City Council on Wednesday. She raised it as a safety concern for children and traffic near the school.

Hinshaw said she believed the city's roads department contacted the builder four times. "He wasn't contacted once, he wasn't contacted twice, he was contacted 4 times," she said.

She said the builder's site plan set aside no space for snow storage, and that the builder is based in California. Another building farther down Redoubt Road sits on a larger lot with room to push snow, she said. Hinshaw asked whether city planning should look harder at site plans before construction begins.

The city manager said the concern would go to the planning director, and that the city does require snow storage on property and would be checking into that one.
