Welcome to TCC Weekly. I'm Amy Hughes, Prevention Specialist at Tanana Chiefs Conference. Here's a look at what's happening across the region. Last week, TCC held a dedication ceremony in Fairbanks to announce the naming of the Andy and Barbara Jimmy Cancer Care and Infusion Center. The gathering brought together community members, tribal leaders, healthcare partners, family and friends to celebrate the lasting impact Andy and Barbara have had on Alaskan Native health and wellness.

The evening included remarks, cultural performances, guided tours and the unveiling of the cancer center, a space dedicated to healing, compassion and culturally grounded care for future generations. Andy Jimmie, Traditional Chief of Minto and former TCC Advisory Health Board Chair, was remembered for decades of leadership and advocacy on behalf of Alaska Native people and the Alaska Tribal Health System. Barbara Jimmie was honored for compassion, resilience and commitment to family and community. Together, Andy and Barbara embodied the values of unconditional love, compassion, dignity and respect, values that continue to guide the work of tcc. Today, Tanana Chiefs Conference and the Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium are offering a free weekend camp for Alaska Native girls ages 10 to 17 who are survivors of sexual assault.

This year's Garden of Roses will be held July 24 through 26 in Fairbanks, Alaska. The camp provides a safe space for healing, support and connection for young girls who have experienced trauma. Registration is open until the camp is full. Travel scholarships will be awarded as registration requests are received so early sign up is encouraged. Garden of Roses is a safe place to share feelings, build support and begin healing.

Participants are accompanied by an adult parent or guardian who who will also take part in healing circles throughout the weekend. To register or learn more, contact Debbie Dementiff at the Alaska Tribal health [email protected] or 907-729-3795 or Roxanne Frank, Trauma and Grief Recovery Specialistanne Frank ananochiefs.org or 907-451-6682 extension 3581 On Monday, July 13, organizations across Fairbanks will come together for the annual Elders Day of Caring, dedicated to supporting Alaska Native elders through acts of service. Volunteer teams will assist elders throughout the Fairbanks North Star Borough with projects like yard work, painting, household organization, technology assistance and safety improvements. Volunteer opportunities are available in two, four and six hour shifts. The deadline to apply for elder assistance or register as a volunteer is Friday, June 12.

If you would like to volunteer, please visit Tananah Chiefs.org to sign up a reminder that Juneteenth is Friday, June 19 and Tanana Chiefs Conference administrative offices will be closed in observance of the holiday. Chief Andrew Isaac Health center will be closed, however the Urgent Care Clinic will remain open from 8am to 5pm Regular business hours will resume on Monday, June 22. Tanana Chiefs Conference is celebrating the class of 2026. Community members are invited to submit graduate photos for inclusion in the July edition of the Council Newsletter. The submission deadline is June 12 through the online portal at Tananah Chiefs.org this June, join a free virtual hunting and fishing advocacy workshop to learn more about wildlife management structures and protecting the resources that sustain our communities.
