Welcome to TCC Weekly, where each week we bring you the latest news from Tanana Chiefs Conference. Welcome to TCC Weekly. I'm Alyana Mandragon. I'm one of the TCC emerging leaders, and I also work in patient registration at Tanana Chiefs Conference. Last week, a gathering of remembrance took place on May 5th at Golden Heart Plaza Bridge in Fairbanks.
This meaningful event honored lives of those we have lost, including victims of unsolved homicides, and creating a space for reflection, healing, and unity. The gathering was held in partnership with Fairbanks Native Association, Doyon Limited, Dinakanaga, Interior Regional Housing Authority, the City of Fairbanks, and the Fairbanks North Star Borough. Community members came together in prayer, remembrance, and advocacy, lifting up the names, stories, and spirits of loved ones who continue to be deeply missed. Events like this remind us of the importance of standing together, supporting one another, and continuing the call for justice and awareness. Across the region, it is also a season of celebration as students reach important educational milestones, from kindergarten graduations to college commencements.

As a reminder, photo submissions for the upcoming TCC Council newsletter will close on June 12th. We encourage families to share this celebration by submitting their graduate's photo at tananachiefs.org before the deadline so that these accomplishments can be recognized and shared across the region. Tanana Chiefs Conference would also like to recognize and extend our congratulations to Maurice Morris McGinty on receiving a Meritorious Service Award from the University of Alaska Board of Regents. This distinguished award honors individuals who have demonstrated exceptional dedication through public service, academic involvement, volunteerism, or philanthropic efforts that benefit the university system and communities across Alaska. Morris's contributions reflect a deep and ongoing commitment to uplifting others, and we are proud to celebrate this well-earned recognition while expressing our gratitude for his continued impact.

Last week, Chief Hildebrand and TCC staff traveled to the communities of Tanacross, Touk, and Northway, where they were warmly welcomed by tribal leadership and community members. These visits are an important part of maintaining strong relationships and ensuring that voices of each community are heard and valued. Time spent together allowed for open dialogue around local priorities, ongoing challenges, and opportunities for collaboration. We extend our sincere appreciation to each community for their hospitality for sharing their perspectives, and for engaging in thoughtful and productive conversations. Looking ahead, the 2026 TCC Youth Summit is scheduled to take place June 19th through the 21st in Fairbanks, located off Chena Hot Springs Road at Nunka Center.
This 3-day camping experience is open to Interior youth ages 12 to 24 and is designed to foster leadership development, encourage goal setting, and provide opportunities to practice and strengthen cultural traditions. Travel costs will be covered, and applications for interested youth are due by May 26th. Last week, TCC celebrated the graduation of Leadership for Results Cohort 3 in Fairbanks. This program brings together tribal leaders, staff, youth, and community members for a multi-month journey focused on strengthening leadership skills and supporting community-driven change. A highlight of the program is the action learning project, where teams work together to address real challenges in their community.
These projects were presented at the graduation, showcasing thoughtful solutions shaped by input from elders, youth, and community members. Graduates from previous cohorts also returned to support this year's participants. Congratulations to Cohort 3 on this incredible achievement. Thank you again for joining us today and for staying connected with TCC Weekly. As always, please continue to take care of yourselves and one another.
Stay prepared and stay connected.
