Tlingit & Haida: Respecting Our Land & Our Totems
video • Alaska News
Our kutiis, some people refer to them as totem poles, are really stories, and they are ancient stories that deserve the most respect. They're not a prop for your Instagram or your TikTok platforms to use. These are held sacred by the people here that live in Southeast Alaska, the Tlingit, the Haida, the Tsimshian tribes. We're just asking you to respect our culture. Learn a little bit about the areas that they're visiting.
Look into the Native culture because there's Native culture in every part that you're going to visit in Alaska. And I think when that time is taken, it is valuable. So we welcome people, but we welcome people to Walker Land in an authentic way with respect.
