"this is not the Department of Energy telling anybody what they're going to do. Instead, this is the Tribal authorities coming to us and asking us to fund their projects because you know your needs and wants far better than we can. The process by which these selections were made was on a solicitation basis, and it was so enthusiastically embraced that we actually had 10 times more requests for the funding than we had money to give out, which meant we were able to be very, very discriminating in determining just how we could get the most value per dollar spent, the most number of megawatts, the greatest reliability benefit."

The, uh, one other thing that's worth noting, and this is important, is that this is not the Department of Energy telling anybody what they're going to do. Instead, this is the Tribal authorities coming to us and asking us to fund their projects because you know your needs and wants far better than we can. The process by which these selections were made was on a solicitation basis, and it was so enthusiastically embraced that we actually had 10 times more requests for the funding than we had money to give out, which meant we were able to be very, very discriminating in determining just how we could get the most value per dollar spent, the most number of megawatts, the greatest reliability benefit. And all of this is being done for the purpose of driving prices down. Energy prices are too high, and the department is absolutely laser-focused on trying to reduce those costs as much as possible.
