During our debates, nearly every single member mentioned the critical need to have contingency fund in place for future unknowns. Let's be clear. By failing to collect the full MAPTOR amount tonight, we would be voluntarily eliminating nearly $500,000 in revenue generating capability capacity in next year. I fundamentally agree with the philosophy that if we don't need the taxpayers money, we shouldn't collect it. That's not how the MAPTOR agreement is structured.
The assembly chose the lowest tax rate that balances the budget, citing rising utility and living costs. The school district will not receive an additional $475,981 beyond the $800,000 increase already adopted.
